Third International Policy Conference on the African Child
Towards Action against Child Poverty in Africa
(12th – 13th May 2008, United Nations Conference Centre, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia)
The International Policy Conference on the African Child has now become a major event on the African calendar and gained increased international recognition as a major forum for debate and networking on children’s issues.
This year’s conference is on the important theme of Child Poverty in Africa. It is, as previous events have, expected to attract a considerable number of academics, experts and child rights activists from African and beyond.
Child poverty is a major, possibly the biggest obstacle for the fulfillment of rights in Africa. Our knowledge of it, however, is limited. What little we know is based on scattered empirical data and anecdotal evidence. We don’t know enough about the nature, dimension and magnitude of the problem. Nor do we know enough about what is being done to address it or how to deal with it. These are some of the themes included in the Conference Programme.
